A George Michael tribute party is happening this weekend in Covent Garden
A George Michael inspired bar is set to pay tribute to the late singer with a free party on Friday January 6, and is expecting more than 2000 fans to attend.
Tropicana Beach Club in Covent Garden, named for the 1983 Wham! top five smash, will open its doors from 5pm until 2.30am for a night of Michael’s hits, featuring tribute performances and as-yet-unconfirmed ‘special guests’.
The nightclub, which usually charges £10 entry, will be waiving its entry fee and instead encouraging party-goers to donate on the door to three of the charities Michael supported; Childline, the Terrence Higgins Trust and Macmillan Cancer Support.
The Careless Whisper singer found dead at his home in Oxfordshire on Christmas Day. He was 53.

Party organisers say they have been overwhelmed with messages from fans hoping to attend.
Tropicana Beach Club’s Anthony Knight said: “Originally we had planned the event for the Thursday however we’ve had thousands of messages and calls from fans begging us to change it to the weekend so they have time to travel from across the UK to attend the event.
“Within 24 hours, over 2000 people had confirmed their attendance. The response has been overwhelming. I had to come in on the bank holiday just to respond to emails and calls from fans.”
The club has also mixed up a ‘Club Tropicana’ cocktail to serve on the night and throughout January. All profits from its sale will also be donated to charity.
