It might be grey outside, but the most colourful event of the year is back in London this month, with the Hindu festival of Holi taking place in March.

The celebrations signal the end of winter and the triumph of good over evil, with the official festival taking place on March 10.

It's being marked with events throughout the coming weeks, from fantastic dining to technicolour parties, and promises to be one of the most uplifting and feel-good moments of the year for everyone involved.

From colour powder parades to one-off special menus, here's our pick of how to celebrate Holi in London.

Get colourful at the Cinnamon Kitchen

Curry favourite Cinnamon Kitchen is hosting its annual paint throwing pop-up in the name of Holi. As well as trying out the special seasonal dishes on the menu, there’s a chance for guests to step into the venue’s print pod, grab a few handfuls of paint powder and create their own expressive artwork. Just don’t turn up in your Sunday best – things are sure to get messy.

Holi Festival supper club at Little Yellow Door

A special supper club is coming to this Notting Hill Spot on Sunday, with the team behind Yaatra Diwali Brunch Party whipping up a colourful feast. The four course menu of traditional dishes will reflect the arrival of spring and there’s also the option to make the meal bottomless, with a selection of Holi inspired cocktails on offer. DJs will spin a selection of Bollywood and Bhangra tunes until 6pm.

Magic of India Holi Colour Dance Festival Harrow

This indoor event from Magic of India at Harrow’s Byron Hall will feature DJ sets, live music, dancing and, of course, all the dry colour powder people can throw at each other. The community event is sure to be one of the liveliest parties taking place this month – there’s also a Magic of India outdoor event on March 21 in Greenford’s Horsenden Hill West to look out for, which will be just as fun.

Dance the night away at Bang Bang Oriental

North west London’s shrine to Asian cuisine, Bang Bang Oriental, is marking this year’s festival with an evening of dance. Bollywood dance group Bollywood Belles will take centre stage at this Holi celebration. There is, of course, huge choice when it comes to food too — there are 30 food kiosks packed into the Colindale food hall, offering an eclectic mix of Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Indian, Vietnamese, Taiwanese and Malaysian dishes.
