Hop across to the East London Beer Festival

A long overdue revival showcases London's burgeoning brewing industry
Pints of Beer
16 April 2012

Real Ale from London’s breweries will be on offer as part of Shoreditch’s inaugural beer festival at Strongroom Bar on Curtain Road this week from Thursday until Sunday.

The festival heralds a long overdue revival of brewing in London. Now there are more than 20 outfits - a remarkable change from just five years ago when the closure of the Young’s Ram Brewery in Wandsworth left Fullers as virtually the sole remaining producer of real ale in the capital, which in its heyday turned out nearly 1 billion pints every year.

The festival will give Londoners the opportunity to discover up-and-coming regional craft beers from the burgeoning community of London brewers as well as more established producers. They range from Fullers, one of the biggest and oldest in the UK, to a one-man-band in the basement of a pub. In all, more than 25 different beers will be showcased. Locally sourced food including pie and mash or Strongroom beer sausages will be available to eat.
