Björn Ulvaeus to hold open auditions for Mamma Mia! The Party in London

Waiting for someone to take a chance on you? Open auditions for a lead role in an upcoming ABBA production at the O2 will be held in London next month.

Björn Ulvaeus, a former member of the Swedish supergroup, is the executive producer Mamma Mia! The Party, an immersive show which comes to the 20,000-capacity venue in August.

Ulvaeus is not interested in knowing me, but rather in knowing you — he’s looking for “young male lead with a pop music background” to play the role of Adam. In other words, he’s after a dancing king, ideally called Fernando.

The auditions will take place on Thursday May 2 at Pineapple Dance Studios in Covent Garden — just a 20-minute walk from Waterloo — and it’s free to attend, so there’s no need to bring money, money, money.

Hopefuls will be expected to flaunt their “natural charm and charisma, along with just the right amount of ‘cheeky’ humour,” Ulvaeus said, adding that successful performers will be required to “sing, act and dance.”

So, what’s the name of the game? Ulvaeus is looking for a baritone/tenor who looks between 22- and 28-years-old. Attendees will need to bring “a pop song of your choice that shows off your voice”, along with the accompanying sheet music — backing tracks or acapella songs are forbidden. You’ll also need to provide a CV and headshot stapled back-to-back. You don’t need to let your mother know.

Registration will commence at 10am on the day, closing at 1pm.
