New pictures showing designs for the highly anticipated London Resort have been revealed.

The planned theme park, dubbed Britain’s answer to Disneyland, is one of the most ambitious projects the capital has seen in years.

If the site secures development consent, building could begin in 2022 and open as early as 2024. It will cost £5 billion to construct.

The new artist’s impressions show a detailed overhead view of the planned site, showing the scale of the park and the different sections – including sci-fi zone Starport, a high street, and a central plaza with shops and restaurants, which leads off towards hotels and a water park.

The planned resort will be three times larger than any existing park in the UK, with a space equivalent to 136 Wembley Stadiums. There are two parks planned as part of the same development, with the second opening five years after the first.

It the site goes ahead as planned, it will be the biggest of its kind in Europe since Disneyland Paris opened in 1992.

“The London Resort represents a unique opportunity to bring a thrilling and exciting global entertainment destination to the UK with a breadth of facilities,” said PY Gerbeau, the London Resort’s CEO.

“It will generate multi-billion-pound investment, thousands of jobs, and will transform a largely brownfield site into one of the most exciting entertainment destinations in the world. As well as maximising new, immersive and interactive technologies, our aim is also to be one of the most sustainable major theme parks in the world, pursuing an operational net zero emissions goal."

The London Resort has also published a series of reports ready for the public to review. See them here.

“We have listened, analysed and considered all the feedback given to us through extensive consultations,” Gerbeau added.

“It is the first project of its kind to be designated a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project so while it’s incredibly important for local communities to continue contributing, it is also important for the nation to have its say."
