Whether you’re enamoured with Einstein or go nuts for Newton, the Science Museum has a puzzle (and a party) for every curious mind.

It first found its home on the aptly named Exhibition Road (the Victoria & Albert Museum and Natural History Museum are next door neighbours) as part of the South Kensington Museum opened in 1857. The science bits got their own museum a few decades later and haven’t looked back since, allowing visitors to nerd out proudly for over 130 years.

Their collections of curiosities and ground-breaking scientific endeavours span hundreds of years, including 17th century anatomical models, early steam engine Stephenson’s Rocket and even the Apollo 10 command module. The Science Museum, however, is just as much about looking at the future as it is the past. The fight against Superbugs is the subject of a 2018 exhibition, and the Tomorrow’s World gallery is dedicated to science’s next step.

Don’t just look, get stuck in. You can take a virtual reality tour of astronaut Tim Peake’s pilot capsule and experience the descent back to earth, climb into a flight simulator to take a 3D trip with the Red Arrows, or take in an immersive film experience IMAX cinema. The Wonderlab is a scientific spectacular for kids, with live shows, a Chemistry Bar, friction slides, orbiting planets and colour changing light zone. Adults get extra time on the last Wednesday of every month, with the museum open until 10pm for an extravaganza of food, cocktails and special performances.

So if you didn’t listen in GCSE Chemistry, this is exactly where you want to catch up.
