Future Cinema take over Fabric, the X Party kicks off at the New Cross Inn and Nouvelle Vague head for the Bloomsbury Ballroom...

FUTURE CINEMA: METROPOLIS
The enterprising film buffs at Future Cinema take over Fabric - no mean feat - to put on a carnival geared around Fritz Lang's silent sci-fi classic Metropolis. Electronica artist Darryn Harkness performs a new live soundtrack to the movie, Voodoo Vaudeville knock out a live set and performers wander about in Twenties Futurist costumes. Mirroring the film, the club will be divided into upper and lower worlds, with artists Pikled Pikchers providing sympathetic installations.
Fabric, 77a Charterhouse Street, EC1. Tonight, 8pm-3am, www.futureshorts.com

DEPTFORD X
It's a bugger to get to (on that funny orange Tube line) but those that do make it to Deptford will find that arts and music are positively flourishing there. This annual showcase is born of local pride: dozens of galleries, such as Artmongers and Creekside fling their doors open to showcase 13 Deptford artists. It all kicks off tonight with the X Party a big New Rave bash at the New Cross Inn.

LONDON: CITY OF DISAPPEARANCES
The capital's premiere "psychogeographer" Iain Sinclair screens short films and natters about his new book, an anthology about hidden and vanishing London, featuring writing from the likes of Will Self, Sarah Wise and Marina Warner. Fittingly, he does so in one of London's least celebrated venues, itself due to be knocked down soon.
London Butterfly House, Syon Park, TW8. Saturday 1.30pm, www.londonbutterflyhouse.com 020 8560 7272

NOUVELLE VAGUE
The Art Deco opulence of the Bloomsbury Ballroom should be a sympathetic space for the elegant Nouvelle Vague - two sultry singers, left, and a suave band who perform covers of New Wave and punk songs in a bossa nova style. Second album Bande a Part, released a couple of months back, is this year's must-have middleclass dinner party soundtrack.
Bloomsbury Ballroom, 37-63 Southampton Row, WC1. Saturday 9.30pm, 020 7287 3834
