Thorpe Park launch 'Old Aged Coaster' discount pass for over-65s

A survey by the theme park found more than a quarter of pensioners felt discriminated against doing leisure activities because of their age

London’s closest theme park, Thorpe Park, has today launched a day pass especially for OAPs, after more over-65s than ever visited in 2015.

The Old Aged Coaster day pass, which entitles its bearer to half-price entry, has been introduced after a survey revealed 26 per cent of pensioners felt discriminated against taking part in leisure activities due to their age.

James Walker, Thorpe Park’s marketing director said: “We’ve always encouraged visitors of all ages to experience what our theme park has to offer and it’s brilliant to see so many over 65’s enjoying the theme park experience.

“We’ve introduced the OAC pass to celebrate our increasing number of older visitors and to encourage the whole family, from grandparent to grandchild to come and visit Thorpe Park Resort.”

Thorpe Park says rollercoaster-lover Emily Barker, 71, who features in the video above, is one of their "most regular" visitors.

The theme park's survey also found that 11 per cent of over-65s wanted to join the Mile High Club. Interestingly, a third of those asked said they now go on more adventures than when they were younger.
