'Twas a cold winter's Knightsbridge

Bauble dawdle: al Fayed and friend will be among the star attractions at this year's Harrods Christmas parade

8am on a Saturday is virtually lunchtime for anyone with small children, so no wonder it's the start-time for this year's Harrods Christmas parade.

Santa himself will be arriving in Basil Street behind Mohamed Al Fayed's Knightsbridge retail landmark, accompanied by reindeer and a host of fairy tale characters, excited children and bleary-eyed adults.

The festive themed window dressing this year, A Russian Winters Tale, sounds a chilly treat and the fact that this is Father Christmas' second visit in a couple of months - he came in August to open Harrods' Christmas boutique - will not put off either kids or lovers of winter retail therapy.
