Tower of London: Yeoman Warders will guide tourists
5 April 2012
Twilight Tours
Tower of London, SE1. Tonight, 7pm, until 27 February (0870 950 2255, www.hrp.org.uk), £25

The last ever prisoners to be "sent to the Tower" were the Kray twins, dispatched for their reluctance to do National Service in 1952.

Now the Tower is officially regarded as a Royal palace rather than a jail, and the city landmark has just launched its winter series of Twilight Tours.

Celebrating the onset of shorter days and cold nights, the tours are packed with tales of hapless past residents and royal gossip.

A resident Yeoman Warden will take you round - offering a glimpse of historical London without the hordes of tourists normally found there. Dates vary, so check the website for all booking details.
