All in all The Crown is a good local

A fine example of 1930's Brewers Tudor: The Crown
10 April 2012

The Crown was once the flagship pub of a long gone local brewery and from the outside it is a fine example of 1930's Brewers Tudor (look at the fantastic chimneys).

However inside Ember Inns have done their usual hatchet job - nice enough we suppose but virtually all individual character has been swept away into one large bar.

Having said that, under the present management The Crown is the best pub this particular chain has in the area. The beer is well kept and the standard Ember Inns menu, with weekly curry and grill nights usually well served and hot (which we can't say applies to other local Ember Inns).

The pub has a good mix of customers and we have found it to have a friendly and inviting atmosphere.

However, if it's a quiet pint you are after, it pays to go there early as it does get very busy during weekend evenings. For the summer there is also an excellent garden. All in all a good local.
