BarChick, doyenne of the London bar scene, tells us what we should be drinking this week to celebrate the planet's best cocktail competition, Diageo’s World Class
Cocktail of the week: BarChick recommends trying The Silver Martini for one week only at the Art Deco bar in The World Class House

The drink: The Silver Martini

What’s in it? Tanqueray no. Ten, La Quintinye dry vermouth, and a dot of grapefruit bitters — served straight up.

Why should we try it? This cocktail comes in a silver glass which was designed by the "World’s best bartender" Alex Kratena from the Artesian Bar at the Langham Hotel, and it allows you to enjoy a classic martini in a unique lavish ritual. If you’re looking for a summer sip, gin is a great place to start. The botanical spirit is the perfect wingman to a hot day: the fresh, citrus notes in Tanqueray no. Ten work perfectly with the sharp grapefruit bitters. The floral flavours of the vermouth (steeped in 27 different varieties of plants and spices) round it off perfectly. This is what summer should taste like.

Where do we get it? For one week only from Monday July 28 you should be sipping cocktails at the incredible World Class House — open in honour of the greatest cocktail competition on the planet, Diageo’s World Class, held for the first time in London. Once inside an immaculate five storey townhouse (you'll need to secure a golden ticket first) you can get tequilas in a secret speakeasy or play student to 49 of the greatest mixologists on the planet as they mix up for you. Want to drink with BarChick too? We'll be in the Art Deco martini bar.

Who do we ask for? Tom Aske and Tristan Stephenson: these heavyweights on London’s cocktail scene put London cocktails on the map with their legendary scientific approach and theatrical delivery when they opened Purl bar and later Worship Street Whistling shop. These days you’ll find them behind their new bar SurfSide in Polzeath, Cornwall, but they are forever travelling and consulting on all things cocktail with their company Fluid Movement. They'll be shaking things up in London for the duration of The World Class House.

How much is it? Tickets to the house are £20 which includes two complimentary cocktails.
