Bourne & Hollingsworth team launch outdoor garden bar Beautiful Allotment

Au naturale: Enjoy food and drink made on site

A working allotment where Londoners can sip cocktails made from ingredients grown on site and drinks served from a potting shed bar is opening in the capital tomorrow.

Beautiful Allotment is set in the Victorian gardens of the Geffrye Museum of the Home in Hoxton, east London, and has been created by the team behind Clerkenwell cocktail bar and restaurant Bourne & Hollingsworth.

The 10,000 sq ft grounds have been transformed into an outdoor garden bar with bookable day beds, makeshift cocktail bars and raised BBQ areas all interspersed between potting sheds, vegetable patches and fountains.

Cocktails created by the drinks team at Bourne & Hollingsworth will be served on site by roaming “garden-tenders” with from either the potting shed or from roaming wheel barrow bars.

Megan Burroughs, one of the organisers, said: “Drawing inspiration from the aesthetic of an allotment, our original idea was to create something idyllic and tranquil in the gardens that was different to other summer pop-ups. Something that can give you a similar service to an Ibiza beach club, lazing around all day and partying into the evening, but with a British twist.”

The menu includes drinks such as the £10 Nettle Gimlet, made from gin and a dandelion and nettle cordial made on site, and the £10 St Germain Spritz - a mix of Elderflower Liqueur, sparkling wine and soda.

A seasonal and daily changing menu, costing around £12 per dish, of food will be served from the BBQ areas such as allotment salads and meats from local producers.

As well as the day beds and other seating areas, there are garden areas for larger groups of between 30 and 100 guests that can be booked.

For big groups, visitors can also pre-book a custom tractor and trailer to pick up from any nearby location such as Farringdon Station.

The tractor will have its own bartender on board, who’ll serve cocktails made from ingredients gown on the allotment for Londoners to enjoy while en route.

Megan Burroughs, one of the organisers, said: “You’ll be transported to a pocket of countryside, with bookable spaces such as the treehouse, daybeds and potting sheds, a stunning cocktail list using herbs we’ve grown on site, a pop-up full to the brim with creativity where you drink and eat in the garden amongst the plants.”
