Hawksmoor Air Street Bar - review

This Art Deco bar is a great place to stop off for excellent pre-dinner cocktails
28 February 2013

The buzz: steak behemoth Hawksmoor has a bar at the fourth outpost on Air Street — a new destination for world-class cocktails.

The deal: it’s a beautiful Art Deco bar but it still feels like a precursor to supper at the restaurant rather than your final stop — this might well change with the new bar snack menu. Cocktails are, as always at Hawksmoor, first class and not too bank-breaking at £8-£10.

Good for: A pre-dinner aperitif

Order: the Champagne Charlie was our outstanding favourite: gin, lemon and homemade seasonal fruit syrup (delicious blood orange in our case), charged with the bubbly stuff — fresh, sweet and a little decadent. Don’t miss the fried queenies.

By the way: you can just walk in, but by the end of the week it’s best to book.

Find it: 5a Air Street, W1 (thehawksmoor.com).
