Meghan Markle royal engagement: The most Prince Harry places for an engagement party in London

Worried Harry and Meghan will overshadow your engagement party? If you can’t beat them, join them

There's one engagement on everyone's lips – and it probably isn't yours. Sorry.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are engaged, and we're all ready to celebrate – but where? If you're looking to make your engagement party fit for a Prince (and an American actress), take a look at our tips for party places in London that boast royal clientele.

The wild one – Bunga Bunga

Everyone likes pizza, even royalty. Prince Harry is known to have frequented this Silvio Berlusconi-themed pizza restaurant in Battersea (there’s one in Covent Garden too) for a pizza party or two. Its owners Charlie Gilkes and Duncan Stirling – who also own Mr Fogg’s, Cahoots and Barts –are said to be friends with the Princes and the Duchess of Cambridge. For an engagement party fuelled by silliness, pepperoni, cocktails and karaoke, Bunga Bunga has it all.

The new kid on the block – Mahiki Kensington

Not that Meghan and Harry are likely to be taking the night tube home after their engagement festivities, but it’s always nice to roll home without too much effort. If Harry is looking to relive a favourite haunt of his youth, then he’s in luck. With supreme geographical convenience, Mahiki has recently opened its second venue right around the corner from Kensington Palace. The new venue is being styled by its owners as a grown-up version of the Mayfair nightclub, an all-day bar with restaurant Pufferfish open from 4pm i.e. you can be in bed for 11 and don’t have to pay the babysitter extra. Thirtysomething heaven.

The pub – The Sands End

If sweet nothings don’t come more romantic than the words “guest ale”, get everyone down the pub Prince Harry-style at The Sands End in Fulham. This pub with a penchant for good food is owned by Mark Dyer, a former Welsh Guardsman who was equerry to Prince Charles. Harry and Dyer (a fellow redhead incidentally) are said to be very close and the Prince has been known to enjoy a pint in this royal haunt. The Sands End is well-equipped for a special occasion, offering a private dining room for up to 35 guests.

The members club – Annabel’s

New look: The Mirror Room at Annabel’s in Mayfair

If a private dining room isn’t quite exclusive enough for your pre-nuptial celebrations, then what about a spot at one of the most exclusive members-only clubs in London? Celebrity favourite Annabel’s has hosted Harry, Will and Kate in the past, and Charles and Diana before that. After half a century of entertaining everyone from Prince Michael of Kent to Mick Jagger, Annabel’s has spent recent years in hibernation due to its total relocation to a Grade I listed Georgian townhouse a couple of doors down in Berkeley Square. The club is due to reopen in undoubtedly glamorous fashion in early 2018 – perfect timing for a chic royal knees-up.

The foodie one – Chiltern Firehouse

Nevermind music: if food is the food of love for you and your spouse-to-be, you're going to need an engagement party with good eating. For seriously good food with the royal seal of approval, Chiltern Firehouse is a prime contender. The Marylebone hotel and restaurant opened in a refurbished Victorian fire station in 2014, and has had queue of A-listers vying for a table ever since. With a clientele ranging from Hollywood megastars to Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice, the crowd is about as Harry and Meghan as you can get. It may be darn difficult to get a table, but then again, canapes don't come better than the Firehouse's crab doughnuts.

The sentimental one - Soho House

There's no time like a wedding for getting shamelessly deep and meaningful, and having your engagement party in the place where you and your future spouse first met is a sure fire way to get a "naaaawwww" from all your friends and relations. For Meghan and Harry, it's not so much about the "where" but the "who" – the two are believed to have been introduced by mutual friend Markus Anderson, global membership director of the Soho House group. Members can make like Meghan and Harry and show a bit of love for the Soho House life at their growing number of luxury clubs around London including the original Soho House, Shoreditch House (complete with rooftop pool) and The Ned, the City hotel which opened just last year.
