The Angerstein Hotel is a pretty decent boozer

10 April 2012

Sitting in the shadow of the flyover at the major junction with the Blackwall Tunnel approach, you'd think the Angerstein Hotel wouldn't have a lot going for it; in fact it's a pretty decent boozer.

Named after a local business man from the late 18th/early 19th century, Julius Angerstein, it's actually a hotel, but plenty of locals visit it too.

The beer on the three hand pumps is decent, the service friendly and efficient and there are screens all over the pub for the sport.

The Angerstein had a thorough redecoration a while back and really outshines its unpromising location. Installing outdoor heaters and a terrace for the smokers was a smart business move too - when we last stopped in for a late drink the place was packed. The Angerstein Hotel is solid and dependable, just how a pub should be.
