With wines served in a host of London’s top restaurants, Tutto Wines and Gergovie Wines will be showcasing the finest European growers in their annual Spring Tasting - an event not to be missed.

On Sunday May 1, Tutto and Gergovie Wines, two of London’s top wine suppliers, will be joining forces to host their annual Spring Tasting at The Round Chapel in Clapton, E5. Now in its fifth year, the event will focus on more than 30 European artisan growers whose wines are stocked at some of capital's best restaurants, including Antidote, Café Murano, Fera, The Good Egg, Trullo, Sager + Wilde, Verden, Nopi, 40 Maltby Street and Lyle’s.

“We started holding our Spring Tasting in 2011 to give our customers and friends a chance to meet the growers whose wines they’d been drinking,” says Gergovie co-founder Raef Hodgson. “Originally it was simply called Meet Our Winemakers! Five years on it has outgrown the space at 40 Maltby Street and we have been joined by our friends at Tutto Wines. The objective is the same: meet our growers, drink with them, eat with them, dance with them.”

Gergovie is a partnership between Harry Lester, owner of the Anchor & Hope gastropub in Waterloo, and Raef Hodgson, whose father, Randolph, owns the celebrated Neal’s Yard Dairy. The duo work with a new generation of winemakers who focus on natural methods, eschewing chemical fertilisers and pesticides in favour of wild yeast fermentation, allowing the wine to speak for itself. They are responsible for the intriguing wine list at 40 Maltby Street.

Alex Whyte and Damiano Fiamma, the duo behind Tutto Wines, travel regularly to Europe looking for terroir-driven wines that express the grape, the place and its personality with as little chemical manipulation and correction in the winery as possible – “wines that speak of where they are from and complement the food on the table”, says Whyte.

Entry to the Spring Tasting is £12 on the door, which entitles you to a tasting glass and free rein to sample the wines from more than 30 of Europe’s most exciting growers. Food will be available at lunchtime, along with wines by the glass or bottle to accompany your meal, with beers from The Kernel Brewery, of SE16, available all day long. Wines showcased at the event will be available to buy, along with souvenir posters and T-shirts.

For those who have attended the tasting there will be an informal, paid-for dinner with the winemakers from 6pm to 9pm, cooked by the team from 40 Maltby Street.

And if you still have energy left to burn, the after-party will be hosted by Brilliant Corners, in Dalston, where you can dance with the growers and sample a few more of their wines.

Spring Tasting 2016 will run on Sunday May 1 at The Round Chapel, Hackney E5 0LY. Tasting 11am-5pm / Dinner 6pm-9pm. After-party at Brilliant Corners, 470 Kingsland Road, Dalston E8 4AE. Entry: £12 on the day. For more information visit spring-tasting.com.
