Crocodile and crickets: Click and Investaurant assesses diners' appetite for risk

Thomas Triebel24 June 2017

A new pop-up restaurant has opened in central London, where diners are invited to take a risk - if they're feeling brave - and tuck into crocodile meat and crickets.

Investment management firm Investec has launched "Click and Investaurant", where the menu offers dishes based on the diner's appetite for risk. There are five different dishes, each one more "riskier" than the other.

Before going to the restaurant, diners are invited to complete a survey that will “analyse their appetite for risk and thus determines their meal”.

The risk-adverse eaters will content with burgers and chips while the most daring ones will be served up crocodile and crispy crickets.

The riskiest meal: crocodile and crispy crickets.

The risk-takers who fall in between the two extremes can enjoy dishes like squid ink cod, rabbit, and wild nettles.

The restaurant marks the launch of Investec’s new online service, Click & Invest, which is designed to inform people about long-term financial solutions.

A survey ran by the company showed that their clients considered “moving banks, speaking in public and trying unknown foods were less daunting situations than investing their money”.

"Am I being too adventurous here?"

“Risk is something that people encounter in their everyday lives. With Click & Investaurant, we have been able to create an innovative concept for people to explore their appetite for risk while tasting some delicious dishes,” said Jane Warren, CEO of Click & Invest.

Head Chef Simon Finn commented: "What I loved about this project was the opportunity to do create an interesting, different and unusual menu. When it comes to food, every day is an adventure anyway, but this really provided a challenge and the opportunity to explore how people's personalities and character traits would affect their choice of food.”

The “investaurant” is located at 155 Farringdon Road in Clerkenwell, and will be open every Tuesday in July.
