Five things Fay Maschler ate this week

Fay finds delicious dim sum in the City and smoked cod cheeks in Victoria
P76 Dim Sum
16 January 2013

1. After The Dark Earth and the Bright Sky (wonderful) at the Almeida Theatre, the gloomy mulch of fresh and smoked salmon wrapped in discs of raw kohl-rabi at the Almeida restaurant and bar opposite.

2. Still fragile from a cunning bug that hid only to come storming out again, I ate carefully at heroic, historic Mon Plaisir starting with velouté of carrots on the astounding-value £12.95 two-course lunch menu.

3. Five-spiced smoked cod cheeks and moo-shu pork at the new friendly, lively A (for Andrew) Wong in Wilton Road, Victoria. Train travellers rejoice.

4. Lacklustre bresaola with beetroot and rocket at Gail’s Kitchen off Tottenham Court Road. Good breads but not as fine as those from Wild Caper in Brixton from a Neapolitan sourdough mother.

5. At lunchtime the best dim sum I’ve eaten since being in Hong Kong at HKK restaurant in the City.
