As a city, we are obsessed with food – and obsessed with taking pictures of it.

But we can’t all call ourselves food photographers, however much our Instagram account would beg to differ.

Brit Mark Benham, however, can. Last night, Benham was crowned Food Photographer of the Year 2016 for his picture titled ‘Flour Frenzy’. It’s a playful shot of a baker having a bit of fun while making bread, creating a cloud of flour in the process.

Other winning entries from the UK include Lucy Pope’s colourful, aerial view of a kid’s table and a towering toastie made with chicken and cheese, taken by Jean Cazals.

Benham won £5000 from Pink Lady, the UK sponsors of the prestigious awards, which took place at the Mall Galleries on April 26.

This year’s judging panel included Jamie Oliver’s photographer David Loftus, Australian celebrity chef Curtis Stone and British food critic Jay Rayner.
