1. Joe and Seph's peanut butter

The hours they spend developing flavours do not go to waste: almost every variety works. This one, a sweet, buttery blend that changes as you crunch, is just the latest. £2.99 available from Whole Foods, Selfridges and independent retailers; joeandsephs.co.uk

2. Toasted Gourmet Popcorn’s sweet and salty

Brothers Sam and Matt Firth make only one flavour of toasted popcorn. These are big, crunchy, caramelised kernels in old-fashioned brown paper packets. £2.50-£3, available from Fortnum & Mason or on Saturdays at Partridges food market, Duke of York Square, SW3; toastedgourmetpopcorn.com

3. Bloom’s Nice and Nutty

Seriously nutty, crunchy and dangerously addictive. A great new British brand — and lovely candy-striped packaging, too. 99p/40g, £2.19/140g, Planet Organic outlets and Selfridges; bloomspopcorn.co.uk

4. Pop’s English toffee and sea salt

Pop is whipping up a corn over in Notting Hill and this is one of our must-have new flavours. £3.45 at Pop The Boutique, 15 Blenheim Crescent, W11; popthewebsite.com

5. Portlebay Popcorn’s Bacon & Maple Syrup kracklecorn

Crunchy and flavoursome with equal amounts of sweet and savoury. Easy-tear bags make this one a good option for sharing in the office. £79p from Duke of Yorks Barracks and Budgens at Belsize Park and Crouch End; wwafoods.com
