Brusselmole: M&S just won Christmas again with festive version of guacamole

Forget Camembert wreaths, we’ll be tucking into this Brussels sprout dip come Christmas day
Holy moly: Brusselmole

If you were ever in doubt that Marks and Spencer had raised the ‘incredible Christmas foods we never knew we needed’ game this year, take a look at this heavenly aperitif the high street giant just launched as part of its festive Food Hall offering.

It might look like your average pot of guacamole, but guacamole this is not: incredibly, M&S has put a seasonal twist on the classic Mexican dip, creating the UK’s first mass-marketed pot of ‘brusselmole’.

Describing itself ‘a delicious blend of Brussels sprouts, soured cream and cannellini beans’ the dip was launched for winter 2015 amongst other bizarre but popular seasonal offerings including a Cornish Camembert wreath and Prosecco-flavoured crisps.

M&S food developer Barbara Ross says: “Last year we launched sprout juice and everyone went mad for it, so we thought we’d step things up a notch this year and go for a Brussels dip.

“We had lots of fun brainstorming a name, before eventually deciding that Brusselsmole told customers exactly what they were getting!”

The hybrid dip is a brave move from Marks and Spencer, particularly as the New York Times came under-fire on Twitter earlier this year for suggesting its readers axe avocado from their guac recipe, opting instead for green peas.

Avocado fanatics immediately rushed to the trendy food’s defence over social media, prompting a large-scale Internet debate. Even Obama weighed-in, telling the New York Times, "respect the nyt, but not buying peas in guac".

Still, we’re willing to forgive M&S for messing with a good thing if there’s a chance it might make sprouts slightly more palatable come Christmas day.
