In news that has justified our cheap taste in wine, a supermarket claret costing less than a fiver has nabbed the same prestigious award as a £25 claret.

Morrisons' budget-priced red wine has been awarded a silver medal by experts at the International Wine Challenge.

The same accolade was also given to the Emilion Grand Cru Royal red from Berry Bros. & Rudd, which has been supplying wine to the British Royal Family for over 250 years.

The claret from Morrisons is five times cheaper than the Emilion Grand Cru Royal red and is one of the cheapest clarets to ever win a silver medal.

Clive Donaldson, Senior Wine Sourcing Manager at Morrisons said: “Posh wines don’t need to come at posh prices and this £4.75 claret is the perfect addition to any Christmas gathering or upcoming Royal party.
