You don’t have to head to Bentley’s or J Sheekey to enjoy a great platter of oysters - simply head to your local Morrisons.

From today until Sunday the supermarket is selling oysters at the wallet-friendly price of 25p each.

The fancy salt-water molluscs usually retail for more than six times this price, at an average of £1.59 per single oyster.

The retailer now claims that it is selling the aphrodisiac at the lowest price in the UK for 25 years, in a bid to help customers live a ‘champagne lifestyle at the price of a fish finger’, after it was revealed that 40 per cent of Brits haven’t even tried one.

The next cheapest price for an oyster is 47p from Lidl, while up-market retailers luxury retailers like Harrods and Selfridges start their prices at £5.

Lidl says its oysters will weigh approximately 60g each and can either be bought as a 6-pack in the fresh fish section or as single oysters on the fish counters.

The supermarket chain has also announced that it will run oyster preparation classes in 219 of its stores, to introduce more people to the fancy foodstuff.

Now, all you need to do is work on your slurping technique.
