Does the prospect of the cookery section in Waterstones make you rub your hands with glee or retreat in panic to your local takeaway? Either way, we’ve done the hard work so you don’t have to and put together a rundown of the best cookbooks available.

If you’re a die-hard carnivore, why not expand your repertoire with Tim Wilson and Fran Warde’s Ginger Pig Meat Book or Gabriel Rucker’s Le Pigeon: Cooking at the Dirtybird.
