Why you need to switch to Komsecco this party season

We’re fast approaching the time of year where the waistbands tend to get a little tight.

With the endless stream of Christmas celebrations (read: alcohol and nibbles), it’s no wonder the average Brit gains 6lbs over Christmas.

However, instead of growing a gut, making one simple switch to your glass of prosecco could actually do wonders for your gut.

Enter komsecco. It's simply prosecco mixed with kombucha.

What is kombucha?

Kombucha is the latest healthy drink trend from the States and is packed full of beneficial bacteria that can help to support your digestion and boost your immunity.

It is a fermented tea that originated in the Far East nearly 2,000 years ago and has been a major health trend in the US since the nineties.

The natural fermentation means kombucha is a great way to up your probiotic intake which can help improve mood stability, digestion and mental clarity.

Nutritionist Cassandra Barns said: “We’re learning more and more about the importance of the ‘friendly’ bacteria and other microbes that live in our gut. They’re thought to influence our immunity, mood and weight, as well as our digestion of course.

“Traditional fermented foods such as kombucha can be a key way to maintain the healthy bacteria in our gut – in fact, some research suggests that they’re much more effective than taking probiotic supplements for this purpose.”

So, naturally, pairing kombucha with alcohol is now a thing. Specifically prosecco, hence komsecco.

Kombucha comes in a range of flavours so you will be able to jazz up your prosecco and benefit from a healthy gut at the same time.

How do I make komsecco?

The general rule is two part kombucha for one part prosecco – so 100ml of kombucha and 50 ml of prosecco. Just remember - it's still alcohol, so drink responsibly.
