The original “breakfast martini” was created at the Lanesborough’s Library Bar 15 years ago. Since then plenty of bartenders have created versions of the drink, including marmalade martinis, which go back to the 1920s Savoy Cocktail Book. This summer, they seem to be everywhere. Here are the best:

Home House

The Portman Square club now offers three breakfast martinis — one with gin and marmalade, one with whisky, lapsang souchong and raspberry jam, and one with vodka, honey and peppermint.

Find it: 20 Portman Square, W1; homehouse.co.uk

Hawksmoor Guildhall

The City steakhouse serves a marmalade cocktail of gin, campari, lemon juice, orange bitters and English marmalade.

Find it: 10 Basinghall Street, EC2; thehawksmoor.com

London Cocktail Club

Serve a breakfast martini that is a variation on the marmalade classic — made of Bombay Sapphire, Cointreau, lemon juice and a teaspoon of thick-cut orange marmalade.

Find it: 224a Shaftesbury Avenue, WC2; londoncocktailclub.co.uk

Brew

Battersea joint Brew makes its breakfast Martini with gin, Earl Grey, lemon, quails’ egg and thyme.

Find it: 45 Northcote Road, SW11; brew-cafe.com

Quaglino’s

The Venetian martini of crème de peche, grapefruit bitters, and a chunk of grapefruit is a good breakfast tipple.

Find it: 16 Bury Street, SW1; quaglinos-restaurant.co.uk
