Party in the park: OnBlackheath festival
Jochan Embley11 September 2015

This weekend sees the return of OnBlackheath. Here is everything you need to know about the emerging music festival.

The essentials

The festival takes place across Saturday and Sunday, September 12 and 13, on Dartmouth Field in Blackheath. Doors open at midday on both days, the music starts at around 1.30pm and things begin to wind down soon after 10pm. Travelling either by national rail or DLR will be the most convenient options (Lewisham station is an eight minute walk away), while the number 53, 54, 89, 108, 202, 386 and 380 buses run nearby.

Need a ticket?

Tickets are still available, either for the entire weekend or individual days. There are discounts for those aged 13 to 16, while under-12s go free. Visit onblackheath.com/tickets for more information.

The music

OnBlackheath is still in its infancy as a festival, but this year it has drawn in some considerable names. Elbow and Madness are the headliners on Saturday and Sunday respectively, with Manic Street Preachers, Anna Calvi and Kelis among the other big hitters. On the smaller stages, acts such as Temples, Gilles Peterson and Tom Findlay of Groove Armada look set to be highlights.

The food and drink

The festival grounds will host a Food Village, complete with a food demonstration stage and pop-up stalls. The biggest draw comes in the form of the Chef’s Club Banquet, a mini restaurant in which festival-goers can indulge in food cooked by a range of celebrity chefs, from Kelis (when she’s not performing) to Martin Morales, founder of Ceviche. These events are ticketed, and some have already sold out.

The rest

There is a family-friendly feel to OnBlackheath. There will be a playground, arts and crafts activities, a maze, story-telling sessions and workshops in DJ skills, animation, TV presenting and more. Also keep an eye out for the arty activites for all ages dotted around the site.
