Best restaurants for kids

So, you're out in town and you want to eat - only thing is you've got a couple of kids in tow. You can do better than a soggy sandwich and a greasy burger - try one of these restaurants where you'll find delicious food and a warm welcome.

Belgo Centraal, 50 Earlham Street, WC2 (020 7813 2233), plus branches. Even fussy young eaters can be appeased with a plate of frites, while you enjoy moules and Belgian beer. Two under-12s eat free from the Mini Belgo Menu for every adult ordering an ? la carte main course. Also at Bierodrome.

Bank Aldwych, 1 Kingsway, WC2 (020 7379 9797). Won't compromise on what you eat? This fine dining house offers a Sunday-lunchtime menu for kids so you can tuck into roast sea bass, while they sample mini fishcakes.

Lemonia, 89 Regent's Park Road, NW1 (020 7586 7454). Established Greek that's mastered that European thing whereby the adoring waiters fawn over rather than sneer at younger clientele. Gorgeously simple, fresh food.

Smolenski's on the Strand, 105 The Strand, WC2 (020 7497 2101), plus branches. Even if diner-style Sunday lunch isn't to your taste, the classic American menu appeals to kids. And the Bloody Marys compensate...

Yo! Sushi, County Hall, 3B Belvedere Road, SE1 (020 7928 8871). On family Sundays, children measuring under 151cm eat free! And older/taller kids and accompanying adults each get a free purple plate when dining.

TGI Friday's, 25-29 Coventry Street, W1 (020 7839 6262). More burgers, fries, steaks and pop than you can shake a sugary stick at. It's not about you...
