BOOK IT: 'A Girl and Her Pig' with April Bloomfield and Fergus Henderson

One kitchen, two chefs and a lot of pig: the New York chef will be popping up for two nights only with Henderson at St John Chinatown
26 October 2012

New York may be an expensive plane ticket away but don’t get too depressed if you haven’t booked a holiday there any time soon. There is good news for Londoners because one of that city’s hottest young chefs is coming to cook here for two nights only next week.

April Bloomfield, executive chef and co-owner of the Michelin-starred restaurants The Spotted Pig and The Breslin, has just announced her residency with London’s Fergus Henderson at St John Chinatown.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, she will cook two lunches and two dinners to tie in with the UK publication of her cookbook A Girl and Her Pig. Dishes from the a la carte menu will be British-Italian inspired using local ingredients and will include April’s signature Spotted pig burger with Roquefort and shoestring fries, and a fried pig’s ear salad, the recipe for which can be found in her book.

Born in Birmingham, Bloomfield worked in London restaurants like Kensington Place, Bibendum and The River Café before moving abroad. However this is not the first time the chefs have collaborated. Over the last four years Henderson has visited Bloomfield in an event that has become known as Fergustock. Whether this signals her return to London remains to be seen but Bloomfield is definitely a chef worth booking in for.

A Girl and Her Pig runs from October 30-31 at St John Chinatown, 1 Leicester Street, WC2H (reservations 020 3301 8069). A Girl and Her Pig is published on November 1 (£25, Canongate)
