Boqueria Battersea

A slice of Madrid in south London
Ben Norum12 December 2017

Following hot on the heels of the always popular original in Brixton, is this second branch of Boqueria close to Queenstown Road station.

It’s easy to see why the excellent — and excellent value — tapas bar is on the expansion.

Classics such as croquetas and pan con tomate are among the highlights, along with some more elaborate options including lamb chops with potatoes cooked with garlic and white wine, black rice with squid and mussels, and red tuna carpaccio.

There’s also a superb selection of hams (the Jamón ibérico is a winner), cured meats and cheeses — and it’s good to note that its small plates aren’t as small as in many restaurants.

To drink, there’s a feast of Spanish wine options at very good prices, but getting involved in the sherry selection is highly recommended.

All in all, Boqueria is clean, minimal and modern, heartfelt, good value and authentic - a slice of Madrid in south London.
