Ailis Brennan9 March 2018

British Pie Week means a lot of very good pies – and the British Pie Awards has found the best of them all.

A steak and ale pie by Turner’s Pies has been announced as the overall winner at the British Pie Awards, held in Melton Mowbray this week.

The ‘Pie of Pies’ features Highland Top Rump & Dark Ale, and was commended for its exceptional pastry texture, its taste and its thickness.

The pie garnered a near perfect score from judges, warranting 99 per cent overall.

Turner’s Pies are a family run bakery based in West Sussex, who have been making pies by hand since 1933.

In the 10th annual edition of the awards, over 950 pies were entered into consideration from 180 producers hailing from across the country.

This year also saw an increase in entries for vegan pies and gluten free pies, which were entered in categories other than the Gluten Free class.
