Cheese feasts: fondue, tartiflette and raclette at London's best Alpine foodie pop-ups

As soon as there's a chill in the air, melted cheese is all some of us Londoners can think about. Here's our pick of the best foodie pop-ups serving up the hot gooey stuff in the best Alpine guises, says Kate Lough

LE CAQUELON AT FORK & FLAME

What: The April edition of this pop-up completely sold out, so we expect these winter seats to fly. It's all about the quality of the produce rather than Alpine gimmicks here: Marcel Petite's aged Comté cheese will be oozing in a vast cauldron — the caquelon — accompanied by smokey saucisse de Morteau, sourdough bread and pickles for £32. House wine is decently priced at £12.

FONDUTA AT FORZA WINTER

What: The Forza Win boys are back to do what they do best: fonduta (Italian fondue). They're dishing up five courses of Italian classics like porcini arancini, raddichio, squashes and hams as well as la piece de la resistance, a great communal pot of sizzling fonduta for the ultimate dipping and dunking experience. Drinks-wise there'll be an Italian wine list, hot cocktails and draught beer.

TARTIFLETTE AT LODGE D'ARGENT

What: Coq d'Argent will be transforming its terrace into a French chalet complete with vintage skis and furry blankets. As well as a special Croque d'Argent menu, it will be serving up piping hot skillets of tartiflette, that mountain mix of potatoes, reblochon cheese, lardons and onions.

FONDUE AT THE LODGE BALHAM

What: This south London pop-up will be cooking Alpine fare right through from breakfast to dinner. As well as the hearty sounding wild brunches and slow down Sunday roasts, fondue pots will be firing up using Neal's Yard Dairy cheeses.

RACLETTE AT LES GREEDY COCHONS

What: Details haven't been finalised yet, but you can expect this fantastically named supper club to host some of its sell-out Greedy Raclette nights before Christmas. It's an all-you-can-eat BYOB scenario in Camden Town complete with super cheesy Swiss alpine tunes — what's not to love? Keep a close eye on their Twitter for this one.

FONDUE AT FORTNUM'S LODGE AT SOMERSET HOUSE

What: At last, somewhere dead posh to hide from the cold in after a few pirouettes on the Somerset House rink. As part of the venue's Christmas arcade, Fortnum & Mason is running a pop-up lodge where you can share a cheese fondue for two, snack on pigs in blankets and warm your hands on hot cocktails.
