Critic's Choice: Where to eat oysters

Hero with a half shell: Irish chef Richard Corrigan at Bentley's Oyster Bar
10 April 2012

It's the beginning of September and oyster season is upon us. Charles Campion goes in search of the best places in London where you can eat them, fresh from the sea...

Bentley's Oyster Bar & Grill
11 Swallow Street, W1
One of London's oldest and grandest oyster bars sympathetically revived by Irish chef Richard Corrigan. The oysters are exceptional, so is the wonderful soda bread. £40pp ex-drinks. (020 7734 4756)

Sweeting's
39 Queen Victoria Street, EC4
Sweeting's is a well-established and determinedly old-fashioned City lunch spot. Wash down the very good oysters with a tankard of ale, perhaps with the turbot to follow. Sit up at the counter. £40pp ex-drinks. (020 7248 3062)

Green's
36 Duke Street, SW1
A very Mayfair atmosphere reigns at this fish restaurant and oyster bar. Sit at the counter for a dozen number ones and enjoy the opening of the oyster season to the full. £50pp ex-drinks. (020 7930 4566)
