David Sexton details the culinary highlights of his week
First of the year: local Franquette walnuts from Montaigu-de-Quercy market

1. I scarpered to south-west France solo for a long weekend of bulb planting (500 so far, each with a pick-axe) and eating all the things Catherine abhors, beginning with lovely boudin noir, black pudding, with mash.

2. And veal! I always make a big River Café osso bucco in bianco, which so weirdly changes for the better with every evening’s reheating.

3. Brandade (salt cod with potato), well made by the firm of Briau, baked, with salad for lunch outside, the right foil for lots of rosé.

4. The year’s first local Franquette walnuts from Montaigu-de-Quercy market, so sappy, so port-demanding.

5. The last of this year’s Charentais melons, so sweet and scented. Then, after seeing the red moon among the stars at 5am on Monday morning, back to London.
