Fay Maschler's week in food: from bodacious burgers to jolly linguine bolognese

The Evening Standard's restaurant critic details the culinary highlights of her week
Part of a heavenly evening: Chestnut Cappuccino and Sea Urchin Cloud
Fay Maschler14 December 2016

1. Carols by candlelight at St Bartholomew the Great followed by supper starting with Chestnut Cappuccino and Sea Urchin Cloud at Pascal Aussignac’s Cellar Gascon. A heavenly evening.

2. At the third and newest Boma — Boma Bridge beside the Thames in Putney — I order the Boma Burger and it is bodacious.

3. Philip Howard, chef/patron at excellent Elystan Street, approaches a Christmas menu with bracing perspective — griddled sprouts with cashew hummus, baked roots, date jam, chestnuts, pomegranate and pine oil. Ho, ho, ho.

4. Masatoshi Ogata, a truck driver who dreamed of ramen, opened a shop in Fukuoka in 1969. Yamagoya ramen, his recipe, is currently popping up on the first floor of Shuang Shuang. Ordering gyoza is my advice.

5. Christmas shopping in Regent’s Park Road is fuelled by a huge heap of linguine bolognese at jolly J Pizzeria e Cucina Italiana at No 148.
