Fay Maschler's week in food: from dessert lamingtons at Dickie Fitz to sautéed grasshoppers at Santo Remedio

The Evening Standard's restaurant critic details the culinary highlights of her week
Authentic: guacamole with crisply sautéed grasshoppers at Santo Remedio

1. Apparently the gawky name references an owner of the group behind Dickie Fitz (previously Newman St Tavern), where dessert lamingtons emphasise the chef’s vaunted Aussie background.

2. Enjoying roasted lamb rump from the lunch menu at The Savoy Grill when himself (Gordon Ramsay) comes in. I am also extremely pleased to meet head chef Kim Woodward, the first ever woman in that post.

3. Cumin pao (soft bun) soaked in the juices of Bombay-style vegetables is a sound way to start a meal at The Cinnamon Club.

4. St Patrick’s Day starts as it means to go on — drink was taken — at Corrigan’s Mayfair, where terrine en croute was as juicy as hearing Oisin and Kieran sing The Auld Triangle.

5. In Shoreditch, guacamole with crisply sautéed grasshoppers from Oaxaca at new, authentic Santo Remedio, owned and run by beautiful duo Edson and Natalie Diaz-Fuentes.
