Fay Maschler's week in food: from Prawn Molee to Brussels sprouts

Making the cut: at the Newman Arms, Dexter rib-eye cooked by Pete Denhart was one of Fay's highlights

1. Giving a dinner party — a rare, near extinct performance — my main course is Rick Stein’s recipe for Prawn Molee, which seems to please. Fresh curry leaves are vital.

2. Gildas, named to honour Rita Hayworth, served at the launch (many skewers threaded by my sister Beth) of By the Atlantic, the latest cookbook from our lovely chum Caroline Conran.

3. Fantastic Dexter rib-eye cooked by Pete Denhart at the Newman Arms, where he will be working his magic until Christmas. Covetable Zeren-picked red wines at jammy prices.

4. Every so often I crave fried beef ho fun. I get my fix at Phoenix Palace, with enough left over for lunch the next day.

5. When you cross kale with Brussels sprouts — as has been done by Tozer Seeds — the result is douce, nutty kalettes enjoyed at home with ham and parsley sauce.
