Five things David Sexton ate this week

Our critic has a most memorable meal at Petworth House and pops back to his favourite Polpetto
Lavish: BurgerMonday offering at Andrew's cafe
David Sexton25 June 2014

1. On Saturday, thanks to Max and Caroline Egremont, one of the memorable meals of my life in The Carved Room at Petworth House, as part of the Garden Museum Literary Festival: excellent marinated salmon, roast guinea fowl and crème brûlée, while watching the sun set over Capability Brown’s deerpark, at my back Turner’s sublime painting of the same scene c. 1830.

2. Sunday lunch, in Caroline Egremont’s garden, vegetarian, locally sourced by Sorrel Scott.

3. Fuelling up for the screening of Jon Favreau’s film Chef on Monday, lunch at my favourite, Polpetto at 11 Berwick Street: puréed beetroot with goat curd and sorrel, followed by crab linguine with purslane.

4. On Monday night, crispy pork belly followed by a lavish burger, pictured, with “cracklinaise”, by chefs Andy McLeish and Alex Tyndall for BurgerMonday at Andrew’s cafe on Gray’s Inn Road.

5. Watching the footie on and off all week, yummy dried broad beans fried in sunflower oil and salted, from Whole Foods. Healthy, right?
