1. Ace roast pork, crackling and apple sauce (pictured) for sunny Sunday lunch at Penny, Clive and Kit Watson’s niftily revamped house and garden.

2. Taken to a trial run for a proposed new restaurant: Pavel Kanja’s 10-course tasting menu included scallop kobujime, buttermilk, toasted bones, tororo and buckler sorrel.

3. At beauteous new Iberica Farringdon sumptuous black rice with cuttlefish, prawns and alioli — among other dishes — with two restaurant critic chums (female). Gossip boiled over.

4. It’s at Smokehouse where Neil Rankin plays with fire and kicks spices into touch with delectably turbulent dishes like Thai chicken liver and duck hearts on toast.

5.Auction Against Hunger, organised by my son Ben and supported by Jonathan Downey, was a fabulous party at Street Feast, Dalston Yard where Ben Tish’s peerless Iberico pork and foie gras burger was just one offering from big-hearted chefs.
