Italian chef Francesco Mazzei has designed a lunch menu in support of the Felix Project, the food waste charity founded by Evening Standard chairman Justin Byam Shaw.

The Chef’s Takeover scheme starts at Whole Foods Kensington this week.

A range of dishes will be available in the store’s prepared food section, with 10 per cent of proceeds going to the Felix Project. Mr Byam Shaw said: “We are delighted Francesco Mazzei and Whole Foods are supporting The Felix Project with this innovative scheme. It lets customers eat a delicious lunch from a top chef, at the same time as helping to combat food waste and food poverty in the capital.”

The dishes on offer include baked tuna and fennel, and a salad of sausage, peas and beans. They showcase the Calabrian cuisine on which Mazzei has built his reputation at restaurants including Sartoria in Mayfair and Radici in Islington. The partnership is the first in a series. It follows on from the Evening Standard’s London Food Month, during which Whole Foods raised £15,000 for the Felix Project through its five per cent giving day.

The Felix Project was founded by Mr Byam Shaw in memory of his son Felix, who died from meningitis aged 14. Its vans collect surplus food from retailers and supermarkets — including Whole Foods — and distribute it to frontline charities.
