After a few months shut, the Guinea Grill has reopened following a full refurbishment and a large expansion of the dining area.

The pub on Bruton place has been a drinking den for more than 600 years, with its restaurant opening in the 1950s. The new fit-out features a vastly expanded dining area and two new private dining rooms.

The expanded downstairs restaurant is essentially an entirely new space which can accommodate a further 60 guests for lunch and dinner, whilst the two new private dining spaces — the 12 seater Gallery and the 16 seat Wine Room — are found upstairs.

The new Guinea has retained features of the lauded original, meaning regular guests will be familiar with the tartan floor, the dark oak panelling, and the classic white tablecloths. The Guinea has long been famous for silver service, which has also been retained.

The food at the Guinea remains unchanged, with meat and seafood the stars of the menu. Pies, including a famed beef and oyster creation with a suet lid, have been a feature for more than 60 years. Other comforting classics, including prawn cocktail and wafer thin cuts of smoked salmon, have likewise been kept.

As London’s oldest steakhouse, beef is an essential anchor for the experience. Guests of the Guinea will be familiar with the meat counter, stocked with dry-aged, grass-fed beef from across the UK, courtesy of master butcher Godfrey’s of Highbury, which has supplied the restaurant since its first service in 1952.

This is the classic fare which saw the Guinea achieve high praise from the Top 50 Gastropubs list in recent years, and why it is regularly touted as one of London’s top spots for steak. The expansion and refit is the first substantial change at the Guinea since its landlord Oisín Rogers left in 2022. He later opened the Devonshire in Soho, which is considered one of London’s very best pubs.
