Hot Dogs are the last thing you would expect to find on a cake stand for afternoon tea. But the ones on offer at a west London hotel have a difference — they’re entirely sweet.

Called Daim Dogs, they feature chocolate “frankfurters” made from Daim bars, served in brioche buns and covered with mango and raspberry sauce rather than mustard and ketchup.

They are available at K West Hotel & Spa in Shepherd’s Bush, which last year devised a Creme Egg burger.

DELICIOUS BUT ONE BITE WAS PLENTY

I am always a bit apprehensive about food that tastes different to how it looks. So when I was presented with the Daim bar frankfurter it was off-putting quite how much it seemed like the real thing.

But looks deceive — it had a completely different texture to the one I had expected. It was crunchy, thanks to the almond butter, but smoother than a traditional Daim bar because of the cream added by the chefs so they can pipe it into a sausage shape. The first bite was the best, combining the soft brioche bun, crunchy Daim bar frankfurter and with the raspberry and mango sauce oozing out of the sides. I thought it was delicious but one bite was plenty. It was so sweet you could actually smell the sugar.

For those looking for a quirky afternoon tea it would certainly satisfy — but only if you have a very sweet tooth.

The hot dogs cost £5.50 each or come served with the hotel’s Glam Rock Afternoon Tea at £22.50 per person. The tea is inspired by the history of the building — it used to be the BBC’s Kensington House, where Bob Marley, David Bowie and The Kinks all played.

Singers who have stayed at the hotel include Amy Winehouse and Adele. Vickie Lavallee, 24, hotel marketing assistant, said: “We wanted to do something as impressive, if not better, than the Creme Egg burger last year.

“Our Glam Rock afternoon tea is different to others in London and we try to jazz it up all the time. The tradition of afternoon tea has been there for a long time and perhaps people are tired of the regular stuff. They want to jazz it up and change their experience. Why would you always have the same scones and the same cucumber sandwiches?

“We wanted to inspire people with a sweet tooth. It’s new and funky.”
