If you like your Italian food a little more adventurous than the usual, then it is worth making the journey to Putney and Giuseppe Turi's pretty little restaurant.

It offers a very genuine and personal version of Italian regional cooking - Turi himself hails from Apulia, and many dishes are based on recipes from this area.

Enoteca takes its name from the Italian term for a smart wine shop and there's a monumental list of more than 90 specialist Italian wines and a separate by-the-glass menu offering 11 Italian regional wines - an excellent way to educate the palate.

As for the food, at lunch there is a shortened version of the dinner menu and dishes are a couple of pounds cheaper.

You'd do well to start with asparagus served with Parmesan-coated, deep-fried egg, or perhaps a plate of antipasto Pugliese - marinated, grilled vegetables served with a fava purée.

Among pasta dishes may be ravioli di castagne e ricotta, or fettuccine with Pachino tomatoes.

Main courses may include stinco d'agnello con purée di patate e cipolline, which is lamb shank with spring onion and potato purée, or petto d'anatra - duck breast served with new season vegetables and dry marsala sauce.

Desserts will test your mettle - go for the torta di cioccolata con nocciole, a blockbusting chocolate and hazelnut cake, or perhaps the particularly good, authentic tiramisù.
