Kerbisher and Malt

First-rate mushy peas and homemade tartare sauce. Expect to share your table.

Find it: 164 Shepherd’s Bush Road, W6/53 New Broadway, W5; kerbisher.co.uk

Despite a constant stream of City workers and locals, staff here are unfailingly polite and cheerful. Open until 11 or 11.30pm most days.

Find it: 6-8 Hanbury Street, E1; poppiesfishandchips.co.uk

Fish House

Take your haddock and chips to eat in nearby Victoria Park, slosh it down with detox-friendly Fentimans dandelion and burdock and finish up with Oddono’s ice cream. Pickled eggs also recommended.

Find it: 128 Lauriston Road, E9 ; fishouse.co.uk

The Fish Club

The fish is good — but this place is all about the sides, which include roasted vegetables, sweet potato chips and beer-battered halloumi.

Find it: 57 Clapham High Street, SW4/189 St John’s Hill, SW11; thefishclub.com

Service was slicker before the refurb but there is a good value two-course lunch menu (£11.95) Tues-Fri.

Find it: 1 Cale Street, SW3/2 Farmer Street, W8; geales.com
