London's best Mexican breakfasts

Whether you want a vibrant start to a productive day or need some bolshy grub to push you through your hangover there's no better for the job than a Mexican breakfast, says Kate Lough

Baked eggs at Wahaca

What: Thomasina Miers's Mexican street food empire has broken into breakfasts. Get the morning juices flowing with some Mexican baked eggs (with tomatillo creme fraiche) served in your own little skillet with buttery sourdough for dipping. Drinks-wise, the almond milk smoothie is the bomb.

Huevos Rotos at Spit Jacks

What: A lovely little neighbourhood place just off Victoria Park — handy for walking your breakfast off — where locals keep coming back weekend after weekend for brunch. Try its spin on Huevos Rancheros: fried eggs, tomato salsa, a chorizo sausage and home-made fries. Bona fide hangover grub.

Avocado breakfast at Habanera

What: Eggs poached to perfection on rye with avocado and lime are worth a trip to this new Mexican shack in Shepherd's Bush — carnivores should add a side of chorizo. Try and bag one of the sofa-ish banquettes and order a watermelon, raspberry and tarragon juice while you wait for your order.

Huevos Rancheros at Lucky 7 Diner

What: Okay so it's mainly known for burgers and shakes, but Tom Conran's Notting Hill diner also does a mean Huevos Rancheros for breakfast. For £9.75 you get a whopping plate of fried eggs, chorizo hash, flour tortillas, beans, guacamole and salsa.

Breakfast burrito at The Breakfast Club

What: One of thew few things better than a burrito, is a breakfast burrito: chorizo, scrambled egg, roasted peppers, Portobello mushroom, guacamole, cheddar and spicy pepper sauce are stuffed into a wrap. You can take out the chorizo for a veggie option.
