The best chip shop in the country has been named at the National Fish and Chip Awards, with only one London venue making the top 10.

Olley’s Fish Experience in Herne Hill was the only chippie in the capital to make the shortlist of the best fish and chip shops in the UK.

The south London restaurant missed out on the top spot to Krispies Fish and Chips in Devon. Captain’s Fish and Chips in Hertfordshire and Low’s Traditional Fish & Chips in Aberdeenshire took second and third prize respectively.

London has featured rarely in the awards in recent years, with the exception of Shoreditch's Poppies being shortlisted for the Fish and Chip Restaurant of the Year award last year, while Pimlico‘s Seafresh and Borough Market’s f!sh Kitchen were shortlisted for awards in 2017. London didn't get any mention at the 2016 awards.

We're pretty sure that London fish and chips are still worth shouting about, so check out our guide to the best fish and chip shops in the capital.
