The Noble Rot team has confirmed that its highly anticipated second restaurant in Soho will open this month.

The new restaurant will open on September 18, inside the former home of the Gay Hussar on Greek Street. The opening was initially slated for Spring, but has been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The venue will be spearheaded by Dan Keeling and Mark Andrew, the duo behind the Noble Rot wine magazine and the original restaurant in Lamb’s Conduit Street. The menu will be overseen by executive chef Stephen Harris (of The Sportsman in Kent) and head chef Alex Jackson (formerly of Sardine).

Both the menu and the decor are set to pay homage to the venue’s legendary former inhabitant. Prior to its 2018 closure, Hungarian restaurant the Gay Hussar was well known as a meeting place for mid-century left-wing politicians.

The first floor of Noble Rot Soho is set to be decorated with a mural by political cartoonist Martin Rowson, while the food offering will include tributes to the Gay Hussar’s Hungarian-inspired spreads. The menu will include eggs Casino; cabbage stuffed with game and sour cream, and a daily goulash, as well as mid-century American chef Robert Carrier’s famed pâte aux herbes, a whole roast chicken with morels and Vin Jaune to share for two.

Noble Rot’s award-winning wine list prowess will also be on show, with a list including its house Vinho Verde ‘Chin Chin’ (starting at £3 per glass), as well as wines from producers such as Ulysse Collin, Frederic Mugnier, Emidio Pepe, Auguste Clape and Jean-Marc Roulot.

Noble Rot Soho will open on September 18 at 2 Greek Street, W1D 4NB, noblerot.co.uk
