Papa John’s has put baked beans on a pizza and called it breakfast

If you haven’t eaten enough beans on toast over the lockdown, Papa John’s has decided to put the British breakfast staple on top of a pizza too.

The pizza chain has revealed that it has teamed up with Heinz to produce a limited edition pie that swaps the traditional tomato sauce base for a slathering of the company’s famed baked beans.

It is billing the result as a “breakfast pizza”, having also chosen to top it with bacon, sliced pork sausages and potato tots. Prices for the pizza start at an eyebrow-raising £14.99, and it is only available in a large size (10 slices).

"Whether you’re nursing a hangover following a virtual pub quiz, or looking for a bank holiday brunch with a twist, our breakfast pizza makes for a great addition to your bank holiday weekend,” said Giles Codd, marketing director for Papa John’s.

The stomach-lining hybrid won’t, however, be around for much longer than the bank holiday. The pizza will only be available on the Papa John’s menu for a total of five days, from today until May 11.

During the lockdown, the pizza chain is no longer taking orders for collection, but is still making contactless deliveries.

If the breakfast pizza doesn’t hit the spot, Papa John’s is offering another way to brighten up your morning. Throughout the coronavirus crisis, it has so far raised more than £250,000 in donations for The Trussell Trust, a UK food bank charity. Customers wishing to help support the cause can make donations through the Papa John’s website or app.
