The Cheese Bar serves up a fromage fest as top chefs whip up toasties

Camden is about to get seriously cheesy.

Next month will see London’s cheesiest restaurant — The Cheese Bar in the Stables Market — become even more of a fromage fest than usual.

Founder Mathew Carver has invited five of London’s best chefs to create their own dishes for a one-off evening of cheese and charity on September 14.

On the line-up are Josh Katz and Mattia Bianchi from Berber & Q, Harneet Baweja from Gunpowder, Tom Browne of Louisiana-style favourite Decatur, Tomasz Baranski, head chef at El Pastor and Pizza Pilgrims gurus James and Thom Elliot.

The chefs will each create a different toastie, battling against each other in the hope of being crowned the grilled cheese champion. While it’s all about being creative, there is one rule — the cheese must be British.

These toasties will all be served to customers as a £20 set menu, with 50% off proceeds going to Help Refugees UK, a charity working to raise awareness and funds for refugees in Europe. As well the set of toasties, the menu will include a beer or glass of wine in the price.

Founder Matthew said: “I am so excited to be working with some of the city’s most talented chefs and restaurateurs who no doubt will be creating some really special combinations and all for a great cause.”

He added: “It’s a great chance to play around with new combinations and flavours from around the world all using British cheeses in a brand new and exciting way.”
